Tom Dorr
Tom has spent many years as the owner and manager of small businesses. He has worked with start-ups and turn-arounds in a number of fields, including: high tech electronics, telecommunications, environmental, and industrial companies.
Tom has been the director of the Center for Economic Vitality since 1996. For over five years, he ran Absorption Corp's Industrial Division which manufactured oil spill cleanup products in Bellingham. In addition, Tom was vice president of sales and marketing for Lynx Automation, a telecommunications accessory manufacturer in Lynnwood; president/general manager of Intergraphics, a high tech service bureau in Kirkland; district executive for Boy Scouts of America in Seattle; and assistant manager of sales and service for Holland America/Westours on the Rotterdam and Tropicale.
Tom's strengths are in sales, marketing strategies, new product development, distribution channels (domestic and international), manufacturing issues, and financing.
Awards/Accomplishments
Tom was the recipient of the 1999 Star Performer award which is presented to SBDC managers in recognition of superior consulting based on dedication to quality service delivery, notable economic impacts, involvement in special projects and commitment to professional development. Since becoming director, the CEV has counseled more than 5,300 businesses; assisted clients with over $165 million in new investments and created or saved over 4,300 jobs. He is the busy father of three daughters - his eldest Danielle, and twins Rachel and Kimberly.
